A Rambunctious Dinner
![]()
they seemed to like playing with my hair!
my housemate matt invited me to a dinner with his aunt and uncle out in zeeland. he warned me in advance that their three boys would probably love my hair. i had a wonderful time meeting the aunt and uncle, but really, the best part was playing with the three kids. they were rambunctious boys, which was fine with me because i’m pretty rambunctious myself. we armwrestled, played foosball, played nintendo DS, played with the dog, played played played. i have no idea why there aren’t too many male babysitters, because i’d totally do it. i had so much fun, and i wouldn’t mind getting paid to have that kind of fun.

being a champion swimmer in grade school, he was pretty strong!
after having dinner and hanging out with the kids, we headed out to their grandma’s antique store. on the way there, matt’s aunt realized that she’d left the leftovers from dinner at home. she was gonna give them to us to take home. now realizing that we wouldn’t get any yummy leftovers, we continued to the antique store with our spirits slightly dampened. however, when we got there, i completely forgot about the leftovers.
it wasn’t just an antique store. it was more of a store that had everything imaginable for interior design. for someone who works in the design field (i do graphic design), there is plenty of overlap between interior and graphic design. i’ll often consult interior design and architecture magazines for color and design inspiration. so walking into this antique store was like walking into inspiration. i had a blast sorting through paintings, decorations, kitchenware, furniture, and of course, old clothing.

i’ve gotta visit more antique stores
i ended up walking out of the store with two issues of country home magazine, and an issue of big style for small rooms and cottage living. they’re sitting on the dining table right now as i’m sketching plans for redesigning our house’s communal work room. it’s great drawing ideas from those magazines, and there’s just so much neat stuff you can do. now i want to learn carpentry, sewing, and planting.
