week of insanity

Wow… I have more lists for shopping and packing and running errands than I know how to handle! I’m sure something will get left behind or “un-done” in all the chaos. It does keep my mind off the pre-leaving blues… it can feel like a long time until Thanksgiving, so that’s always sad. (Once I’m there, though, I always get caught in the excitement of a new semester. It’s impossible not to get wrapped up in all the informational meetings, coffee reunions, and in-class introductions!)

Instead, though, I’ve been focusing on keeping up! Revising my honors thesis proposal, pulling out boxes (our poor dining room is getting filled up again!), and trying to keep everything in order… that good old flying-by-the-seat-of-the-pants feeling. Despite those lists.

It’s really not bad. The other girls in my apartment and I have been emailing back and forth, especially today, with news on what the latest furniture addition will be. (I hear we now have a coffee table—woo hoo!) I’ll be moving in on Saturday, and it’s always fun to set up the rooms and apartment for the year.

Last week my parents and I squeezed in another trip to Nashville—a chance for me to see my older sister again. We spent a few days there (I was always accompanied by books on ancient Greece for work on that thesis… making me ever-popular), and we got to visit all these fun Nashville restaurants. I met Polly, a tiny dog that Kristen was dog-sitting, and Kristen and I got to catch up and watch movies late at night. (I spent every night on an air mattress that fully deflated by the next morning. Here’s hoping that the bed has a leak. Otherwise… it’s a good thing I’m signed up for P.E. this fall! Ha ha ha.)

So it’s the last few days of summer. (I’m looking forward to the Michigan snow, though most people think I’m crazy.) I’ll be celebrating my birthday tomorrow—I’ll actually get to see Karen again! She’s down in St. Louis now, so she, my mom, and I will all hit a Spanish restaurant in town. After that, it’s wrapping up everything around here. Calvin, I’ll see you this weekend!—jl
