vacation!!!
Whew! Back from Minnesota! (And we leave for Nebraska this weekend… wow.) My family and I had an awesome time in Duluth and Minneapolis. Rented a cabin for a few days, and spent the time kicking back, exploring, and skipping rocks. (I skip rocks better sitting down… is that wimpy or proper technique??)
We first spent a day in Minneapolis, relaxing at my cousins’ house… playing Scattergories, going to church, chatting and catching up. Then we went up to the Knife River area, and stayed in a cabin together for a few days. It was awesome after the weather broke… (I melt when it hits ninety degrees, and it was near one hundred the first day. After that, it settled down to the seventies and eighties, which is at least sane.)
Our cabin was right next door to a yarn store, so Mom and I checked it out, with two of my cousins. The little store held every possible kind of yarn, and a few books on knitting and crocheting. Hm. I already know how to crochet, but knitting remains (well, remained) a mystery. So I bought two books that had funky projects in them, and now I just feel too crafty for words. (Seriously, you can crochet a huge leather floor pillow. Definitely a needed skill. And I’ve always wanted knitted mittens…) Anyway, after a little begging, my mom taught me how to knit, so I’m practicing! I have a bad tendency to add stitches somehow, but I think I have the whole knit versus purl thing down.
In the next couple of days at the cabin, we explored Duluth, which is a cool city, and a nearby lighthouse and waterfall area. I had a blast, seeing new places and catching up with my aunt, uncle, and cousins.
So now… we take my younger sister back to her college in Nebraska on Saturday. (I love how Calvin doesn’t start until September! Lucky me!) I think that the Nebraska trip will be my last one this summer. Whew!
Here’s a handful of Minnesota pictures…

Well, that’s about it! It’s really getting to be back-to-school time, which is exciting. I think I’m ready to see everyone again, set up a new apartment, start classes (seriously), and write papers. (Well, maybe that last one is pushing it…)—jl
