the story of break: part one
So, nearly a week into break, and I thought I ought to give an account of myself… It’s been pretty laidback, actually, which is nice. Last Friday I left Calvin around one and drove home with my dad and sister (Adrienne, the younger one. You’ll meet her again later).
And yes, I had been looking forward to the car ride. Everyone had been warning me about snow, and after a bad experience at Thanksgiving (“I had a bad experience…”—The Italian Job, ha ha ha), I really wasn’t in the mood to sacrifice my precious eight hour conversation time to a blizzard. But it didn’t snow. And we ended up giving a ride to another girl from the St. Louis area, and she and I chatted about books (especially Flannery O’Connor, a definite favorite) for awhile.
Anyway, we arrived home, and my mom was waiting for us with Cranapple cider and snacks. Then my older sister (Kristen) drove in with her boyfriend, so we all got to meet him, which was pretty cool.
The next day we all hit the St. Louis Zoo—so much fun! I hadn’t been in ages. The weather was perfect, the animals were cheerful… Here’s one of my favorites:

More to come later from the zoo picture file…
Anyway, on Sunday my dad, Adrienne, and I drove up to Nebraska to drop her off at school and to meet her boyfriend—which was also pretty cool. On the ride back, Dad and I talked for about seven hours straight about everything—books, movies, religion, education, relationships… everything. I think I had a lot of opinions stored up, a lot of questions, a lot of commentary, and it was so awesome to hear his take on things as well.
Yesterday I napped and pretended to think about homework, ha ha ha. Mom and I watched part of Luther, a very cool movie that I’d only seen once.
Today I thought more about homework and actually did some. That was necessary. I also got my hair done… also necessary. :cheese:
Well, that’s the play-by-play so far! Lots of talking, lots of resting, a smidge of homework. It’s what break is all about!! Hope you all are enjoying yours… share your stories! Post a comment or two!—jl
