the last month

So I think we’ve all recovered from the family reunion last weekend. It was a great few days—I really enjoyed getting to see my extended family again. I got to talk more with a few second cousins (or is it first cousins once removed??) and my great aunts and great-aunts. We all played games, had a lot of good food, shopped in a nearby town (Lebanon Illinois, where, weirdly enough, Charles Dickens stayed during his tour of America. strange, eh?).

Lots of fun, but lots of energy. I think I’ve caught up on sleep by now.

I can’t believe that I just have August left at home! Wow. I’m thinking more about my honors thesis work now. The full proposal is due the first week of school, so I’m researching and pulling some thoughts together for it. Hit the library for a bit yesterday… I don’t know. It’s kind of exciting. I’m looking forward to this year of school—I’m taking adolescent literature this fall! Can you beat that??

I’m also signed up for a weight training class, so I’ve been messing around at our YMCA—trying to get a head start for the fall.

Other than that… we’re still traveling like crazy people: Tennessee tomorrow, for a baseball game and fun with my older sister. Then up to Minnesota next weekend, for a few nights in a cabin with my aunt and uncle and their kids. That will be a blast—probably the truest “real” vacation we’ll have. We haven’t seen this family since Christmas, but we always have a great time together.

Whew! Before I know it, I’ll be back at Calvin again! Moving in to our Chi apartment with some friends… I kind of miss having a coffeeshop within walking distance… Yeah, it’s about time to come back.—jl
