room-warming
Yesterday, and not a week or so ago, was the long-awaited Day of the Bed. Yes, I am now sleeping above the floor like most people. (And the trampoline is gone, much sadness.) No, really, our room is finally put together after all the chaos of interim break. Look! It’s gorgeous.
So, after all the moving and rearranging, Kim and I had a room-warming party, just the two of us (furnished in part by Valentine’s Day leftovers):

And as long as you’re peeking into our apartment, here’s our living room, also a bit rearranged after our room got back to rights:

So the apartment is once again the peaceful place it used to be. Now if only my schedule were so calm… I have been so busy these last few weeks! What I thought was syllabus shock turned out to be syllabus impossibility—I simply lacked the time and energy to do everything I had signed on to do. After a few panicked phone calls home, I decided to quit my part-time job. Sad! The people I work with are like family, and I will miss them. There just wasn’t any other way to make everything fit.
This week, then, is my first job-less week, and I’ll have to see how it goes. My classes are still pretty demanding, and they’re only picking up speed. (I think—okay, I know—that senior seminar is the big culprit. It’s a pretty hefty reading load, especially because it only meets once a week. I’m still working on how best to pace the readings for that course. That said, we’ve been having awesome discussions. It’s a very good sign when a three-hour class passes quickly.)
In my readings this weekend, I’ve had one foot in each millenium. Isn’t that weird? But for History of the English Language, I’ve been reading about the Scandinavian invasions (so, tenth century) leading into the Norman Conquest. Then for Senior Sem, I’m reading about post-modernism. Whoa. If I switch subjects too quickly, I’ll get culture shock…—jl
