oceanography part two

Tomorrow morning I set off with my oceanography class for our second field trip. (Is it weird that I’m looking at this like a mini-vacation??) We’re driving up to the Leelanau Peninsula, and staying overnight at the Au Sable Institute. All I have to do tomorrow is sit in a van… read David Copperfield (homework for a class)... and eat pizza after we arrive. (Well, and tour the institute. Which also sounds like fun.)

It’s been a hectic week (did not do so well on a test today!), and I’m looking forward to a break. Even if that break includes the study of coastal processes. Fine by me.

The weather has finally decided on autumn (though it was awfully summery earlier this week), so I’m actually packing a scarf. Yes! I love crisp fall weather. Favorite time of year. (I think. Parts of winter are awesome as well. I’m looking forward to snow.)

Anyway, Saturday will be filled with visits to different spots along the coast of Lake Michigan, and then we’ll get back to Calvin late that night.

Another bonus: Our prof mentioned that since it’s the end of the tourist season, Traverse Bay fudge might be discounted… sounds beautiful. I have another paper due on Wednesday, and fudge can solve anything. Bring it on.

He also recommends the coffee at another stop. Sign me up for that one too.

So I’ll be enjoying the fall colors this weekend. Hopefully I’ll have pictures for you on Sunday!—jl
