no lions, one lazy tiger, and a few bears: oh my!

... I think the lions were hiding from the 100 degree heat, not to mention the beautiful St. Louis humidity. Wow. That’s enough to make me want to run back to my wonderful Grand Rapids winters!

The penguin house was awesome: forty-five degrees!

So, the incredible Laura and I got together on Sunday (with my family, of course) for a trip to the St. Louis Zoo. Such a hot day!! But it was a great chance to catch up with Laura. I’m so glad she’s spending time in the city this summer, though our summers are uglier than the Michigan ones. But then, she just spent a semester in Spain, this spring, so hopefully the heat is more like that… just without the cool language, the gorgeous mountains, and the Mediterranean. Otherwise, it’s exactly the same…

We were so hot afterwards; Starbucks frappucinos were the perfect end to the day! And I got a pictorial tour of Spain… so, so beautiful. (The travel bug strikes again—how soon can I get to Europe?)

I’m also thinking about church community—one of those “after graduation” things to think through. Where should I transfer my membership to? Where do I belong down here? I miss my church up north as well as LOFT on Sunday nights: that balance of high church and close community. It’s tricky to find here, especially when I’ve been out of this loop for four years. Maybe I’ll be doing more church hopping, in the next few weeks?—jl
