nearing another end
I only have three more class days in my whirlwind of an interim. Was it just a week ago that I was gasping for air? (I’m still gasping, I just have less time to do it in.) We’re screaming through the last few chapters on usage in grammar, and the final tournament approaches in badminton. I can’t believe that we’ve covered so much in so little time… though I think my grip on noun clauses and smash shots is looser than it ought to be. The tricky thing about interim is how little time there is to digest the material—hopefully I can do more of that this weekend?
These days have been good, though, even as full as they are. Take today, for instance. I have laughed to the point of tears more times today than in the last few weeks together. Everything is funny today. Names, situations, old memories, coincidences. (For some reason, certain awkward memories from last year have cropped up again and again. I, of course, have to recount these in full to my roommates, no detail spared. Which means we end up on the floor, shaking with laughter, wiping tears, and getting polite requests from our neighbors to keep it down. Oops.)
Our laugh sessions at the end of this (short) term are like the dance parties at the end of the last one. We have to say goodbye to Amanda in a week. Laura is already in Spain, and Amanda’s heading to Washington D.C. I’m so excited for her, but we’re realizing again how much we’ll miss each other. (So many times this January we’ve been saying that we miss Laura… how do we say goodbye to another roommate?? Sigh.)
But, Kim and I will be getting another roommate this next Wednesday. (I think that KE tries to keep at least three people or so in an apartment.) Anyway, we haven’t met her yet, but I’m going to try to reach her this weekend. And we’ll definitely meet on Wednesday, when she moves in. It’s exciting—another beginning in the midst of other changes. I’m looking forward to getting to know her!
Ah, this is a little short. But I need to scoot and brush up on the serving court sizes for badminton… how far do you hit in doubles? Isn’t it a longer court in singles? Hmmm. Test tomorrow…—jl
By the way: this blog reaches its one-year anniversary (or birthday, or whatever celebration blogs have) on January 23. Pretty crazy. Maybe I’ll make a cake?
