It all comes down to where you sit.  (Happy Valentines Day!)

This weekend was a blur.  Saturday I did my homework and then went over to the showing of “Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring.”  Good movie.  But, with my impeccable judgment of place, I sat directly behind a tall guy with a decently large head.  Rats.  Didn’t realize this until the lights went down and I couldn’t see enough to trade places.  So part of the screen was obliterated by his silhouette.  My own fault.  Anyway, the two-thirds of the screen that I could see featured a beautiful movie.  Excellent cinematography.  [That’s my big film word.  I like using it.]

In all seriousness, it really was a gorgeous film.  I was a little confused because I missed out on most of the subtitles—caught a few letters here and there, but for the most part, they were lost on me.  So a couple of major plot points slipped by, but I loved the scenery and the pacing of the movie.  (It was about a Korean Buddhist monk and the boy he teaches.  Very restful, gentle, and beautiful.)

Then on Sunday, I went to church.  I just love my church (Immanuel Lutheran Church)—it really feels like a home for me.  I always go with Karen, my good friend.  And then we go out for coffee afterwards at “It’s a Grind” coffeehouse.  It’s such a perfect way to start the week.  Church and coffee and chatting with Karen… it helps keep me grounded.  [That pun was completely unintentional.  Sorry.]

At about six on Sunday some friends came over for a little “Valentine’s Day Eve” party.  It was great—we had tons and tons of food: stir fry and fruit salad, chips and salsa, crackers and cheese, cookies, brownies, chocolate, coffee, cider…  perfect.  Then we watched the classic romantic comedy Proof of Life.  Okay, not a romantic comedy, but it worked.  Aside from the language, I just really love that movie.

Stay tuned: I have a picture of the ladies that dropped by, but, my technological skills being what they are, I can’t make the computer do what I want (as in, post the picture).  Rats.  But keep an eye out for it… hopefully I’ll get this figured out soon.

In the meantime, have a happy Valentine’s Day!—jl
