Interim Sundays
One of my good friends wished for two feet of snow, and I think we’re nearly there. Piles and piles of snow! Enough to postpone the famous Calvin-Hope basketball game, so even the natives must be impressed. I always forget to expect tons of snow. And I’m seriously considering building a snowman to stand guard on our balcony. There’s enough snow for one obese man, or two well-built ones. The snow doesn’t pack well, though. Maybe I’ll just pile it into a mound, pour water over the whole thing, and create a snow blob that we can keep till May.
I love weekends during Interim. You can finish your homework quickly and then relax until Monday. Today I spent two hours crocheting a scarf at a pal’s “knitting circle.” (I was the lone crochet-er amid a sea of knitters. I really should learn how to knit, but I haven’t gotten around to it.) I haven’t really crocheted in ages, and then suddenly had a domestic fit and made a potholder after Thanksgiving. Well, I guess it’s a potholder. More like a small rug. It’s absolutely huge, khaki and blue, and I’m so proud of it. I felt ambitious after that, so a week ago, I tried to make mittens. I created a long, triangular tube with a hole in it before tearing it out and deciding to go for a scarf instead. And so, after watching Pride and Prejudice yesterday, a Humphrey Bogart detective movie today, and joining the Knitting Circle, I have about half of it done. Light blue, and some of the stitches are wobbly, but I’m starting to feel a bit maternal about it. I think it will turn out all right. –jl
