hanging out with a different crowd

Last night I went to a concert at a nearby church—bringing back fabulous Calvin memories of concerts in the Fine Arts Center. And this time, while it was quality music, I was definitely on the younger end of the audience! Actually, I should qualify that: there were some junior high and high school kids, but all of the college kids are… at college. Of course.

But as my parents are fabulous company, we still had a good time. Michael Card, a name I grew up with, was the main singer. His music is easy to listen to, and much of it was familiar. But I especially enjoyed listening to Andrew Peterson… any Peterson fans out there?

He especially reminded me of Calvin friends… and sure enough, digging through the archives, it looks like he visited there in 2000, a couple of years before I came. He simply sung along with his guitar, lyrics that made me think or laugh, and a few songs to make me cry.

So it was a good night—a nice kickoff to my “school year.” It’s starting to feel like I’m skipping out on school… like those nightmares when I thought I had slept through class or forgot entirely about a term paper. Yikes! It’s September, what am I doing at home?—jl
