fa la la la la, la la la la

Happy Christmas Eve!

This month (and year!) is almost done. I can’t believe it.

My family has a wonderful habit of opening our presents and emptying our stockings on Christmas Eve, which means we only have a few hours left… My sisters and I act five years old when it comes to opening presents. (With this slight bit of maturity: we’re every bit as excited—if not more so—to see everyone else open what we bought for them. I found some amazing presents this year and I can’t wait to see my parents’ and sisters’ faces when they unwrap their gifts!!)

Everything gets more festive when my sisters come home. Last Monday, Mom, Dad, Adrienne, her boyfriend Jon, and I went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens to see the Chihuly exibit. It was beautiful!

Writing gets lost in the muddle, but last week went really well. In the aftermath of NaNoWriMo, I’ve been trying to get refocused on the basics of writing and craft. So it’s been a lot of short pieces, exercises, and practice work. And this week: it’s a lot of goal planning. I want a clear perspective going into 2007. As always, it’s wonderful sharing all this with Mom. She’s been busy as well—she’s an online marriage columnist. We have great brainstorming and writing sessions together! I’m grateful to have a partner in all this.

For now, though, we’re taking a few days off. In two hours, we’ll be at Christmas Eve church (I’m hoping it’s a candlelight service!), and then home for presents.

Have a merry, merry Christmas, wherever you are! And Happy 2007!!—jl
