dance dance dance

So, last night I went to Dance Guild’s spring 2005 performance… “Shake Your Groove Thing.”  Pretty awesome show.  My roomie (roommate) was in two of the dances, and I recognized a bunch of other people…

I was really impressed by the mix of dances and music this year.  Rap and funk, disco and ballad, sacred and swing.  Such a blast to see pals of mine ballroom dancing, or one of my friends from a writing class shaking her groove thing.

The costumes were pretty amazing, too.  For one Elvis song (“A Little Less Conversation”), all the dancers had these immense puffy wigs.  I don’t have a clue how the wigs stayed on their heads, but it was great to watch all that hair fluff around.

During another song, “American Woman,” all the dancers skipped rope throughout the song.  (It was choreographed by one of the girls in my sociology lab group… so proud of her!)  I watched in amazement: all that jumping rope brought back memories of second grade recess.  I could never, never, ever jump into a rope that was already swinging… I would always time it wrong and get swatted in the face as the rope came around.  This explains why I was in the audience and not on stage…

Although they really stress how anyone can do dance guild.  They’re probably right.  Tons of students are involved every semester, so we’ll see.  Maybe (maybe) maybe I’ll give it a shot next year.
