been dancing here

So, nearly done with exam week. I have two left: adolescent lit and oceanography. Oceanography is the scarier of the two, as I still haven’t mastered bony fishes and sharks… or estuarine environments… or seaweeds. I’ve been making flashcards, studying with friends, and reading about mackerel.

But since we can’t study all the time (or even most of the time), my apartment has been having tons of fun this last week. After being disciplined all semester, forcing ourselves to study now has been harder and harder…

So we’ve been directing our extra energy into midnight dance parties. (What else can you do?) Usually in our jammies, accompanied by Belgian techno or that Numa Numa song, running around in the back bedroom making up new dance moves. (We’re so gifted, it’s crazy. A few moves that will be sweeping the nation: the do-the-dishes, the Christmas-tree, the raptor, and the stepped-in-snow. Incredible.)

Seriously, we haven’t been serious at all. It’s like living in a benevolent madhouse: we all four get laughing fits at the same time. This is probably because our brains are tired, but also because we’re splitting up soon. Laura’s off to Spain in two and a half weeks, and Amanda’s going to D.C. after interim. (She’s already home, actually.) So when else can we do this? I don’t know, so I don’t mind goofing off and bonding now… some things really are more important than studying.

That said, I don’t know nearly enough about eels, so I’d better scoot. My parents and younger sister will be here tomorrow night—at which point, I’ll be done! It will be wonderful to be home…—jl
