... AND we’re back

This is the whirlwind that is the first week of school. Whew! I moved into Chi Hall this past Saturday, and classes started Tuesday, and here I am… still sane. I don’t know if First Weeks are the same for everyone (you’ll have to let me know), but between memorizing a new schedule and trying to find bowls and spoons in my new kitchen, I usually feel like I’m losing my mind. That, and, I can never remember what day it is. (Though I strongly suspect that this is Friday—which is very good news.)

BUT, things are good with me, despite the confusion. As it is Friday, I think, all the starting-up chaos is settling down, and I am settling in. At about 10:30 last night, I unpacked my last box of kitchen stuff, and things now feel official. It’s good to see familiar faces and to have the kick-off parties and opening meetings. My apartment-mates and I get along very well, and we have a great view of the fountain behind KE.

So even though the summer flew by, I’m happy to be back… meeting with old friends and starting new classes. Oh, and I turned in my honors thesis proposal! At last, it’s safe on my professor’s desk, and I can dig in to the project itself.

In a few weeks, everything will feel normal and routine again, and I’ll relax into my schedule. Which includes a lot of reading this semester… a willing price for an English major.

Just now I’m midway through Moll Flanders, by Daniel Defoe, for my British Novel class. Moll and I didn’t exactly hit it off when I read her in high school, but then, neither did I and Beowulf or Shakespeare. And I’ve since converted and enjoyed them, so… we’ll see. I’ll keep you posted.—jl
