I just finished a cup of blackberry sage tea, and I’m listening to the soundtrack for the new Pride and Prejudice movie… being home is beautiful. I’ve been spending a lot of time with my mum and younger sister, usually reminiscing or laughing our heads off. There are worse ways to spend long afternoons…

been dancing here
So, nearly done with exam week. I have two left: adolescent lit and oceanography. Oceanography is the scarier of the two, as I still haven’t mastered bony fishes and sharks… or estuarine environments… or seaweeds. I’ve been making flashcards, studying with friends, and reading about mackerel.

just before the last class of the last day
I’m trying to be appropriately melancholy about the end of classes this semester… I truly will miss my profs, my classmates. Some of the work.
But for the most part, I’m very excited about time off! Snoozing at home by the fireplace, Christmas services with my family, rolling out Christmas cookies… And even next week—exam week—feels vaguely festive. I’ll be packing and studying, wrapping up the last of the last.

Do you get tired of countdowns? I don’t. Two weeks left. And actually, in a kind of backwards way, finals week is one of the best parts of the semester. Sure, there’s the stress of tests and last major grades… but in between study sessions, I always manage to squeeze in a lot of lounging and fun. It balances out somehow.
But finals are next week, so this week I have two papers to finish, a book to read, oceanography reading to catch up… (oops)
