NBA All-Star Weekend
There was a different atmosphere on campus this weekend. It was sibling’s weekend, so besides the typical college students on campus, there were a lot of kids ranging from all ages and parents too. It was a little weird seeing a lot of younger kids around in the dining halls. Unfortunately my little brother and sister could not make it out here, mostly because I forgot to tell them about it. However, it’s a pretty long trip out to Calvin for me and it would have been hard to make the trip with the weather as bad as it is. Throughout the weekend, I got to meet quite a few different siblings of some of my friends. This weekend in general was just a good weekend, because I did not have as much work to do as in past weekends. It started on Friday afternoon, as soon as Religion was over, my weekend had started. After Religion class, I met a couple of my friends to workout. After our workout we decided to shoot some hoops for a while. We definitely needed the practice after suffering an embarrassing loss earlier in the week in our intramural basketball game. There were a couple of our team members that needed to work on their shooting. We shot around for a while playing different three point contests. After we shot for a while we decided to play some 2 on 2, which was a lot of fun. I thought I was still in decent shape from the soccer season, but it turns out I was wrong. Basketball is pretty tiring.
After getting a pretty good work out, we went to dinner and after dinner we played some video games. Apparently people do not ever get sick of playing Call of Duty or FIFA. After playing some video games, I watched the NBA All-Star Celebrity game. I love NBA All-Star Weekend and the celebrity game is always funny to watch. Saturday was another action packed day full of things to do. A couple of us went to watch the Calvin basketball game. We went to the field house after lunch only to find out that the JV and Varsity basketball games would be the last games played in this gym ever. We watched the second half of the JV game, which was a very good game. Calvin was down when we got there, but they fought back to win a close one. Calvin played Kzoo and Kzoo had a chance to tie the game at the end, but the shot got blocked and Calvin had won. After watching the JV basketball game, I left to go do some homework. Homework lasted all of about a half hour before I went to play some snow football. There was lots of snow on the ground, but it was not extremely cold, making it perfect weather to play. It had been a while since I had played and it was a lot of fun to get outside and run around. After playing some snow football, a group of us went out to a very nice dinner. Kurt and Lucas, who are my friends from the soccer team, went out to eat with some of our other friends Hilary, Lauren, and Ali. We went out to Outback Steakhouse because I was dying to have some steak. We were so hungry and when we got there it was an hour and a half wait. We wanted to eat there so bad that we waited it out. We left for a little while to mess around in the mall for a while. One of our good friends had to work on Saturday night so we went to mess with him at work. After being at the mall for a while, we went back to Outback just in time to be seated. My meal was amazing; I had a nice big 14 oz. steak with a sweet potato and salad. After eating and hanging around talking, we came back to campus and we watched a movie.
On Sunday, a group of us went out to eat after church to TGI Fridays. I used to work at a TGI Fridays back at home before I came to Calvin. After lunch, I worked on doing homework. Sunday night, I had a meeting for soccer. It was a good time as we ate some pizza and sat around and talked about starting our small group meetings. After the dinner and meeting, I hit the books again. Only to take another break and watch Lebron James tear up the NBA All-Star game. He won the MVP, his second in a row, and I know he has a couple more of those coming his way. I am a huge Cavs fan and Lebron is my favorite player in the NBA. He went to high school in Akron, which is not too far from my high school. I remember he scrimmaged at my high school when I was a freshman, and I remember him dunking on a hoop in our lower gym and he broke the rim. It was so sweet and now it is hard to believe that he is one of the best players in the NBA. Well that’s all I have for now so you will just have to wait for my next blog.
