Hitting the Slopes
As the snow continued to fall, I kept wandering what would be something fun I could do in the snow besides the typical snowball fight, sledding, and football game. A group of my friends quickly came up with the idea of going skiing or snowboarding. I thought that would be a great idea, but I ran into a problem, I did not own my own ski equipment. Snowboarding and skiing is a big thing at Calvin as many students go every weekend and even during the week throughout winter. I was worried that ski rental would be expensive at the place we were going, but it turns out this place ran specials for students with a college ID. So Friday afternoon I took off with my friends Kurt, Alex, and Bart to go skiing and snowboarding at Caberfae for the night. On the hour and half trip up to Caberfae, I thought about the last time I had gone skiing and soon realized that it had been a long time. I started to get nervous because I was going with a group of experienced skiers and boarders.
As I put my skis on and started to climb the lift, I got really nervous because I did not want to embarrass myself in front of my friends. However, as soon as I started going down the first hill, the motions of skiing slowly came back to me. My friends did not give me much time to get adjusted to the slopes. After only a couple runs down the smaller slopes, they made me take the lift up to the steeper slopes. Part way down the steeper slope, I went down, and this act quickly became the routine for a good part of the night. Halfway through the night, a couple more of my friends met up with us. By the time they had gotten there, I finally had a grip of things again and I was not falling all the time. Despite the falling, it was a lot of fun. This was my first time skiing in a long time and it was really fun skiing and being somewhere together outside of Calvin. We skied until we could not feel our toes any longer. On our way home, Kurt, Alex, Bart, and I stopped at a pizza place that a group of people at Caberfae told us was good. We stopped at a place called Buddy’s Pizza. It certainly hit the spot as it helped bring the warm feelings back into my body. After eating, we made the trip back to Calvin only to call it a night after a long day.
Saturday was pretty relaxed as I slept in until I got up for lunch. After lunch, I hit the books for a good amount of time until I stopped to take a break to play catch phrase. We always go boys vs. girls when we play catch phrase and it always gets pretty intense. It was a lot of fun, and in the end, the boys prevailed. After catch phrase, I went to dinner with my usual soccer teammates. We usually eat a lot of meals together. It’s always nice to be around each other after spending a lot of time together during the season. After dinner, we had a 24 marathon. 24 is one of my favorite shows and it is always so intense. 24 is one of those shows where you watch one episode, and then you keep having to watch more because you are so excited about what is going to happen next. When everyone had finally gotten tired of watching 24, we went out to IHOP. IHOP can be a popular place because they are open all the time.
My Sunday was pretty typical, after Church I spent part of the day doing homework and the other part of the day doing what I love to do on Sundays. Watching Football!!!
