Back into the Routine
Interim finally has come to an end, but before second semester started I got to enjoy my interim break. After debating what to do for a while, I finally decided to head back home for interim break, rather than hang around Calvin. So on Wednesday after my grueling two hour exam for DCM, I headed over four and half hours back home to Stow, Ohio. The weather was not great, but I was so excited to get home that nothing really phased me. Wednesday night was pretty low key as I got to spend some quality time with my mother and my little sister Nicole. We went out to eat at the Mexican Restaurant Pancho and Lefty’s. It was a lot of fun as I got to catch up with what has been going on back at home and in the family. After dinner, we rented a family movie and watched that until we were all ready to go to bed. The next day was just a day to relax and blow off some steam. I played video games with my brother Steve and just hung around the house not doing too much. At night my mom made one of my favorite meals, chicken piccata. I had missed home cooking and it tasted so good. That night I just spent more time hanging around with my family. I got to bed early because on Friday I had big plans.
Friday afternoon I left my house and went to visit my older brother Mike in college. He goes to Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. I could not wait to see him since I had not seen him since I left to go back to school. Friday afternoon we went to the rec center to play some basketball. We could not play basketball because an indoor track meet was going on so we ended up playing some racquet ball. It was a good time, but in the end, youth succeeded as I beat my older brother in three sets. After racquet ball, he showed me and took me through his workout for soccer. It was not a lot of lifting weights, more just strengthening exercises. It was a fast pace workout and it was tough. I ended up being sore for two days because I was not used to movements quite like that. After racquet ball, we went out to dinner at Penn Station and got some big Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. After eating, we just spent the rest of the night hanging around his house spending time with his housemates and friends. Saturday morning I headed home and spent most of the day with my friends that were still in high school. It was nice to visit with them to see how school is going and also finding out where they are headed to college next year. Sunday night was pretty laid back as I went to Church and then we celebrated my mom’s birthday. My older brother came back from school and the whole family was able to go to Outback Steakhouse. Outback is one of my favorite restaurants because their steaks are unbelievable. On Monday, I packed up my stuff and headed back to Calvin.
On Monday night it finally hit me that classes would resume again. I would no longer just have one class a day; I would be back to my full schedule of fifteen credits. I was nervous and excited at the same time. I was ready to get back into the swing of things, but at the same time I was nervous about having all new classes. This semester I am taking Probability and Statistics, Psychology, Geology, Christian Theology, and Computing with Spreadsheets. The beginning of the semester is always a stressful time for me because everything seems new again. After the first few classes, I start to settle down. I am excited to start these classes and finally get back into the routine of things.
