a day at work
I know that my faithful readers are wondering just what exactly I’ve been doing all summer at work, so I thought I’d try to give you an idea through a series of pictures from the Calvin Admissions Office this summer. We’ve had a lot of fun, putting personality and character into our work.

The summer Admissions Assistants: Merideth, An, Keisha, Rachel, Amos, Amma, Me, Mic, and Alex
We start out each morning with a meeting to go over the day’s activities: tours, lunch meetings, mailings, prospect calling, and front-desk cover. Sarah lets us know what tours we each have.

Kim usually asks each of us individually how we are doing and if we have any prayer requests.

After we have our meeting and pray we pick a word of the day and have a “hand pound”.

We don’t usually have tours until 9:00, so we have some time to get ourselves sorted. Mic and I usually start the day off with some hot (caffeinated) tea.

Our work consists of a lot of data entry:

Front-desk work (answering phones and welcoming visitors):

We also give at least one tour a day each, often two and sometimes even three, and each of those requires a follow-up postcard:

Lately we’ve also been doing some calling to invite prospective students to upcoming cookouts in their area.

All summer we’ve also had “smoothie” time. We tried to do it every week, but it turned into more like every other week. Kim (and sous-chef Vanessa), the students’ advisor, would bring a blender, some ice and sherbet and fruit, and would whip up some yummy treats for the whole office.

A lot of the time though we just have fun. We do work, but not at the expense of having a good time. It has made this summer a lot of fun.
