Displace Me

Last night (Saturday, April 28) was a nation-wide effort to raise awareness about the horrible living conditions caused by the 21-year war in northern Uganda.  This event, called Displace Me, occured in 15 US cities and over 67,000 people participated.  I was one of them.  I traveled to Soldier Field in Chicago, the nearest Displace Me city, with seven other students from my dorm.  There were over 5,000 people there in the parking lot where we set up a simulated displacement camp for the night.  These pictures don’t do justice to the amount of people who were there, but at least they give you an idea of the magnitude of this event.

the greatest floordate

I’m not sure the title is entirely true, but if this floordate wasn’t the best, it was at least right up there at the top of the list.  Maybe I should start with what a floordate is.  It’s not that complicated: basically a girls’ floor goes on a “date” with a boys’ floor.  This past Friday at 4 my floor had a date with 3rd Beets.  I have a few friends on that floor (like Nehemiah…you should read his blog about this same event!  http://www.calvin.edu/weblogs/reflecting_nehemiah), and we thought our floors would have a good time together.

As AC (activities coordinator), I get to pick what floors we date and what we do, so naturally I asked their AC if they would like to date us.  After receiving an affirmative answer, we decided to do a photo scavenger hunt.
