By amyHello again. It’s been a while since I last wrote, and we have been BUSY! We had our first PASSPORT last week. It was so much fun. Most everything went really smoothly, and it was kind of an adrenaline rush for us to see everything we’ve been planning for months finally coming to life. We met a ton of people; your freshman class is looking pretty good thus far. :) One of my favorite parts is meeting parents. They just have no shame. Whether they’re asking tons of questions, trying to embarrass their kids, teasing me about my lip piercing, or gushing about our opening session videos, it makes me happy to see them getting excited about and involved in their kids’ college experience.
I get to be an RA one of the nights for PASSPORT this week. Pretty pumped about that (although the dorms can be super hot these days). It’ll be so fun to be in the dorms again. Oh I can’t wait to meet more of you freshmen. I’m so glad I get to be part of your Calvin experience. Get hype, cause it is going to be the time of your lives.

By amyHey y’all. I hope there are tons of people reading these, because I am about to tell you what is really going on around here. No, we’re not eating our poop; no, we’re not arguing over which Disney princess is the hottest; we’re not even eating pickles. We are actually doing some work....
Guess what we did yesterday. We packed more than 2000 folders full of information for you and your parents!! It was a party, tell you what. It’s all about the assembly line. And then we ate pizza.
Things are definitely getting crazy around here. We have a whiteboard full of tasks, which we cross off as we go. Don’t you love crossing things off to-do lists? It’s probably one of the most fulfilling and satisfying things you can do. So, I guess we’ve been feeling REALLY fulfilled all week. Yeah. That’s a good way to look at it.
Do you know what an air-bazooka is? Unfortunately, everyone in the office now does. Andy’s favorite activity is to shoot a blast of air at us when we least expect it. But hey, whatever “blows your hair back.” Literally. (Get it? Bwahaha.)
Alright, time to get back to work. Gotta cross some more things off the list today.
Get hype for Calvin.

By amySo, we’ve reached what we call the “four week mark.” We’ve been working in the office full time for 4 weeks, and we have 4 weeks until the first Passport session! CRAZY! I think we’re all feeling a little extra pressure, but also lots of excitement. Personally, I can’t wait to meet the incoming freshmen. It’s always so refreshing to see a whole batch of new faces and to think about all the things new students will get involved in. Sooner than we can imagine, it will be you-- our new freshman class-- stepping into leadership positions and finding activities to flourish in. I guess that’s why I wanted so badly to be part of Orientation Board: I love the thought of being part of the freshman growing experience for students who will come out of four years at Calvin to be important, effective members of the Christian community, making the world a little more like the coming kingdom.
Okay, I got a little into it there. :) But really, I am looking forward to all the Passport sessions. I wish I had the capacity to personally get to know each and every one of you. Wouldn’t that be amazing: if human minds could remember that many names and faces?! Maybe in heaven. Until then, I’ll just say hi to everyone, but don’t get hurt feelings if I don’t remember you. :)
Alright, time to get back to work. There’s a lot of it. :) Blessings!

By amyHello again! We on the Orientation Board enjoyed a long weekend to celebrate Memorial Day. A few of us went out of town with friends, others just relaxed here in Grand Rapids. Back in the office on Tuesday, we had a good long meeting to talk about what we need to do before our retreat this weekend. For me, the main task is more video taping! We shot all day yesterday, mostly outdoors in the hot hot sun. It was a good time, although pretty tiring. We’re happy with how the scenes are turning out. They make us laugh, so hopefully they will amuse you too.
Okay, time for me to get to work. Peace.

By AmyWe’ve come to the end of the first week! Everyone started off Monday morning pretty full of energy and pumped about the summer, and the excitement level has definitely remained stable through the week. We all have our separate to-do lists (which are super long at this point!) and different projects we’re in charge of. It’s a little overwhelming, but it’s encouraging to know that specific people will be in charge of handling specific tasks.
The part of the summer I’m most involved in is the Opening Session for Passports. We’ve been working on scripts and ideas for the past month or so, and now we finally get to hammer out the details and see our ideas come alive! We’ve got some amazing brainstorming people (Michaellynn and Dan) and a hilarious writer (Andy) working on plans for the video clips, so we have some really fun stuff planned. We started shooting for real last night, and we’re spending most of the day today in front of the camera. This will probably continue through the next two weeks. It’s so much fun! The hardest part is keeping a straight face while we’re acting, because the lines are too funny and our team is so goofy. But we’ll definitely pull it off, and I think it’s going to be a hit.
Happy Memorial Weekend! We’re off Friday-Monday, and then back at it on Tuesday. I’m actually going to miss the office this weekend. It’s good to have a job you look forward to every day. :)
Until next time~
