The following security patches and updates will be released by CIT on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.

Target Audiences
Faculty and staff workstations
Smart Classrooms

Windows Systems
Windows updates will be installed silently and automatically. If a reboot is required after installation you will receive a message in a pop-up window. You will be allowed to postpone the reboot for up to 24 hours after the updates are installed. If the machine is not rebooted within the 24 hours the system will reboot automatically. If you want to verify if these updates were installed you can go to your Add/Remove Programs control panel and check for the patches listed below.

Windows updates to be included:
Firefox 3.6.12
JRE 1.6.0.22
MS10-087 Office 2007
MS10-088 PowerPoint

Macintosh Systems
Users on Macintosh systems will be prompted to install patches. You will have 14 days to begin installation. If a reboot is required you will have 5 minutes after installation completes to reboot your system or it will reboot automatically. Patches listed with a triangle next to them indicate that a system reboot is required. 

Macintosh patches to be included:
Apple Security Update 2010-007
Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3
Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 8
OS X 10.6.5

Network Infrastructure Maintenance for November 26, 2010

Friday November 26, 2010 from 8am-5pm:

CIT will be performing network infrastructure maintenance during this time.  All end-user workstations can expect network interruptions.  This will affect your ability to use any and all CIT resources and the Internet during this outage window.  Please turn off all your workstations for the holiday weekend before you leave work on Wednesday. **

Additionally, many off-campus Internet services will be affected.  This includes getting access to the following servers and services:
- College webserver (ie: http://www.calvin.edu, etc.) **
- College application webserver (ie: web pages for library, kuyers, CICW, VanLunen, etc.)
- Email delivery **
- Groupwise
- WebAdvisor/Webwizard **
- File servers **
- Imagenow
- VPN services

** Many Calvin services will be affected during this outage; some services may be affected that are not listed.
