Warners Picks Up Win #200 As Volleyball Team Takes Second at ONU Invite

ADA, OH—Calvin women’s volleyball coach Amber Warners picked up the 200th victory of her collegiate coaching career in five-set victory over Carnegie-Mellon Saturday afternoon at the Ohio Northern Invitational. Calvin defeated Carnegie-Mellon in come-from-behind fashion, winning by scores of 16-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-8. Calvin (3-1-0) then fell to the College of Mount St. Joseph 25-18, 23-25, 28-26, 25-16 in the championship finals to finish the tournament with a 3-1 record.

ST. LOUIS, MO—After suffering a heart-breaking 3-2 overtime loss to nationally-ranked Washington University of St. Louis the night before, Calvin (1-1-0) bounced back with a 1-0 victory over Transylvania University of Kentucky Saturday evening. The game was part of the Washington University Classic.

BATTLE CREEK—Calvin finished in 12th place at the Olivet College Lou Collins Classic on Saturday, finishing the 36-hole tournament with a total of 633 strokes. Calvin opened the tournament with a team score of 318 strokes on Friday and came back with a score of 315 on Saturday.

Doezema Leads Calvin Men’s Golf Team at Olivet Lou Collins Classic

BATTLE CREEK—The Calvin men’s golf team is in 13th place after one day of competition at the Olivet College Lou Collins Classic with a team score of 318 strokes. Olivet is hosting the 36-hole tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club with one 18-hole round left to be played on Saturday.
Calvin’s top finisher on Friday was sophomore Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) who fired a round of 72, leaving him in a five-way tie for second place heading into Saturday’s competition.

Sophomore Scott Hooker (Hudsonville/Unity Christian) netted a penalty kick as Calvin snuck past Goshen 1-0 in Friday’s season opener in the Cal Bergsma Memorial Tournament. Calvin will host Aquinas Saturday at 4 p.m. as the Knights begin their six-game non-conference schedule.
The tournament honors Dr. Calvin Bergsma who died tragically in a car accident during the summer of 2001

Calvin Swim Coach Reflects On Olympic Games/Looks Ahead To New Facility

The Calvin sports information department sat down for an interview with Calvin swim coach Dan Gelderloos to reflect on the recently completed Summer Olympic Games. In the interview, Gelderloos reflected on the incredible achievements of Michael Phelps, the performances by the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Swim teams as a whole and the lessons learned this past year from former U.S. Olympic swimmer Josh Davis.
Gelderloos then gives his thoughts on the on-going construction with the Venema Aquatic Center on campus, new swim suit technology and its effect on collegiate swimming and a few tidbits on how some of his current and former swimmers are faring in triathlons.
