

Coming June 4: Mac Office 2008
On Wednesday, June 4, CIT is updating all Mac computers to Microsoft Office to version 2008. This version contains many feature enhancements along with a completely remodeled look and feel making Office products easier to use. It also can share documents with Windows Office 2007.

On Tuesday, June 3, CIT's Teaching & Learning team is presenting a LunchByte where we will show you the new features available in Office 2008. Although the menu is the same, the toolbars look different. In addition there is an Elements Gallery that gives you quick access to some of the features that you use the most, improved charting capabilities, the ability to save a document in PDF format, and more.
We'll also give you a preview of the new Mac operating system Leopard. Leopard will be installed on all new Mac computers being deployed this summer.
Come join us as we begin to explore the changes in Office 2008 and Leopard.

Office 2008 Known Issues
- EndNote: Due to technical changes to Office 2008 for Macintosh third-party add-in connectivity, EndNote Cite While You Write (CWYW) is not compatible with Word 2008. EndNote is planning to release a patch in June to resolve this issue. Read more at http://www.endnote.com/support/en_wpchart_mac.asp
- ChemDraw: Microsoft removed the ability to retrieve the original chemical data in pictures pasted into Microsoft Word when they released Microsoft Office 2008 (if you copy and paste a structure in Word 2008, for example, into ChemDraw, you can't edit it). For security reasons, CIT blocks some email attachments
For security reason, CIT blocks certain email attachments from being sent or received. They include:
- bat
- cmd
- com
- cpl
- exe
- pif
- rar
- scr
- vbs
If you send a message to someone outside of Calvin with one of those attachments, you will get an email informing you that your attachment was blocked.
If someone from outside of Calvin tries to send you a message with one of those attachments, it will be dropped without notification.
Please note: These rules do not apply to email sent internally within Calvin's email systems. That means if you send an email to another user in the Calvin GroupWise system with a file attachment with one of those extensions, it will get delivered.
