Requesting IT accounts for new or returning student employees
If you have new or returning students working in your department and you want them to have access to your department's common drive [G:], your department's web drive [W:], or print to your department's printer, you need to complete the form Request additional access for current faculty, staff, or students who have accounts.Note: Although most faculty/staff see the common drive as g:\ , students will see the drive as h:\ or another letter. Printing for Student Employees
Students who are also employees at Calvin need to complete the iPrint Secure Printer Setup within your department before they will be able to print. They then need to select a default printer. Additional information can be found in the FAQ for Student Employee Supervisors
Requesting IT accounts for new staff and faculty
Once Human Resources enters the new employee information into Colleague, the employees supervisor must then request IT accounts for the new employee using the online Request accounts for new employees form (This includes phones, voicemail, computer accounts, etc.) Once requested the account creation takes 3 - 5 business days and the employee is sent the account information in a green envelope via ICM.Faculty: Adding teaching assistants to your KnightVision course
If you want to add a TA or grader to your KnightVision course please fill-out the form Add a TA or grader to your KnightVision course. CIT will add your TA or grader within twenty-four hours of receipt of your request.Faculty: Combining sections of a course in KnightVision
If you teach multiple sections of a course you can have all your sections combined. Please consider the following before making this request:
The Gradebook will contain all students from all sections of your course.
- This feature is based on professor not on course. All like courses for a professor will be
combined. Thus, a professor teaching the following four courses will have
two KnightVision courses generated for the Fall.
- - - - engl-101a
- - - - engl-101b
- - - - engl-231a
- - - - engl-231b
Combined:
- - - - engl-101ab
- - - - engl-231ab
- When you choose the options to combine all sections of your course it combines all future sections for like courses as well. If you decide you no longer want KnightVision courses combined please fill-out the form again and request this be discontinued.
Please use the online form Combining Sections of a Course in KnightVision for making this request.
Faculty: Will your students be able to see your Fall KnightVision course?
When you first start building your semester course it is not available to students. When you login to KnightVision and look at your My Course list on the My Calvin page you'll see an (unavailable) next to the course name. KnightVision is setup this way so you can work on your course before making it visible (available) to your students. Before your course begins you need to be sure your students can see the course.
To make your course available:1. Login to KnightVision and click on your course link.
2. Go into your course Control Panel.
3. Under Course Options click on Settings.
4. Select Course Availability.
5. Set course available to Yes.
6. Click on Submit.
Even though your course is available, each part of your KnightVision course can be made unavailable until you want your students to see it. If you want help developing your curriculum in KnightVision IT's Teaching and Learning team is available to help.

All Calvin College students are provided a Novell account; a location where they can store files on the campus fileserver. If you hold classes in a computer lab or classroom or you want a student to make a presentation in a Smart Classroom your students can login to their personal Novell account and access their academic and course-related documents and files. However, before new students can use their Novell account they need to activate it.
Note: Returning students who activated their accounts last year do not have to do it again this year. If a student can't remember their passphrase have them login to KnightVision then click on Change Novell passphrase or Change KV passphrase under the Tools menu.
The computers in computer labs and classrooms require that you login with your username and passphrase. Until a student has activated their Novell account they will not have a passphrase that will work. Through the month of September students can login to any on-campus computer with the username of "accountactivation". No passphrase is required. They should then go to http://www.calvin.edu/it and click on Activate Your Novell Account under Student Quick Links on the lower-left to activate their Novell account.
For additional information on student Novell accounts please see: FAQ: What faculty need to know about student Novell accounts.
