Reached your GroupWise archive limit?
For Windows users only. Here is some information about your GroupWise archive that you might not know.
You have a 300 MB size limitation on your GroupWise fileserver storage space. To keep your GroupWise storage space under the 300 MB limit you can either delete items or archive them. We recommend that as you open items in your mailbox you delete those items that you no longer need.
When you archive GroupWise items they are stored in your archive directory on f:\groupwise\archive. Archiving items saves GroupWise network space and keeps your mailbox uncluttered. It also protects items from being automatically deleted. Your archive, although larger than your GroupWise network space, has a size limitation of 1GB. That's the same as 1024 MB.
Because your archive is stored on the network, it is only available from on-campus when you are logged into Novell. If you exceed your archive limit you'll get the message

When you get that message you need to open GroupWise and select File > Open Archive and delete any emails that you no longer need to access.
If you use the archive, you should periodically check the size of your GroupWise archive directory. (Windows users only.)
What do you NOT need to archive?
- Don't just archive everything. Look through each email and calendar item and delete what you no longer need then archive anything remaining.
- You do not need to archive Calvin News, Calvin Matters, or CIT Alerts. These listservs archives are all available from http://www.calvin.edu/archive.
- You don't need to archive calendar items like birthday reminders, hair cuts appointments, and other calendar items that you don't need to retain history on.
What SHOULD you archive?
- You should archive any email or calendar item that you might need to access again.
As always, if you have questions please contact the HelpDesk at x 6-8555.
Calvin being spammed with phishing attacks
Calvin faculty, staff, emeriti, retirees, and students have been receiving spam emails the past several weeks that appear to come from an official Calvin entity. The subject lines have titles such as:
“UPGRADE YOUR CALVIN WEBMAIL ACCOUNT NOW”
“UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT"”
"PLEASE PROTECT YOUR CALVIN.EDU ACCOUNT FROM BEING CLOSED" ”
These emails are phishing attacks and not from Calvin.
Please note the Calvin HelpDesk (or any other Calvin entity) would never ask you to verify your passphrase. Please recall that providing your username and password to another person is a violation of Calvin's Acceptable Use Policy. In order to protect your information and Calvin's IT systems, if CIT detects that your account has been compromised it will disable your account until you are able to reset your passphrase either through the HelpDesk or the self service option in KnightVision.
If you receive any emails asking for personal information please delete them and DO NOT RESPOND. Responding to these emails could compromise personal or college information.
