El Picacho

Posted by KB at 05:34 PM

I am still figuring out how to make the pictures small enough to put into the blog (if anyone has any advice on how to do this, please let me know) but I can write about our day yesterday, my favorite day yet! We went to el Picacho with our families: we enjoyed a beautiful bus ride up a mountain and then got to see all kinds of different animals native to Honduras up close in a small zoo. (The monkeys may have gotten a little bit too close for some seeing as they found their way out of their cage and were trying to steal any snacks they could find!) Afterwards we walked to the Christ statue that we had seen the day before from El Centro; I was surprised to find out how huge it is up close! There was also a beautiful view of Tegus.

We are finally here!

Posted by KB at 05:22 PM

Although we spent a few extra hours in the Houston airport, we arrived in Tegucigalpa safely.  It was actually kind of nice to be able to spend some time getting to know each other while still allowed to speak in English. Once our plane came in and the storm cleared out, we had a bit of a bumpy ride but had no other problems getting to the university and the meeting our families. Friday morning we had a few hours of orientation and got to meet more of our professors. We had a tour of the library and also became familiar with the mall across the street from the university.  Saturday we met with our prayer partners, ran around the university and mall while doing a scavenger hunt, and then went on a tour of “El Centro” of Tegus.  I think we are all still adjusting to very different life styles here; so far we have had quite a bit of time to rest and hang out with our families. Although each family is very different: some with kids, some without, some wanting to spend every minute with their new family member, others busy with their own lives – I think it is safe to say that we are all enjoying the wonderful Hospitality of the people of Honduras.

Hey!

Posted by kb at 12:10 PM

Hey to all of my fellow Honduras 07 semester students! Because of my Jubilee Fellows program, I had to do some sort of sevice for the Calvin community next fall and after talking with Professor Miller and Professor Leder, decided to help out Professor Miller with the Honduras Blog. So I will be posting pictures, stories, and prayer request throughout the semester, but please send me any information you would like to see posted!  Also I will try to ask each of you for prayer request and stories so that everyone’s expereinces will be equally represented. My email is kmb8 at calvin.edu -please feel free to email me at any time and if possible please email me a prayer requests, over the summer so that we can all know how to pray for each other. Looking foward to getting to know all of you better! Love in Christ, Kristi Buurma
