Warm Weather

Did you ever notice that whenever the weather gets warm, people always seems happier? Is it because of the weather or is it just because people are no longer hiding in their rooms, or maybe even both? These past couple weeks the warm weather has finally started to set in and it actually feels like spring after a long drawn out winter.

I have heard rumors that the sun causes your body to release endorphins that make you fell happy and give you more energy, but I think that it is more of a mental thing. The first warm and sunny day I saw more people outside than I had seen all year. They were every just enjoying the warm weather again, playing frisbee, lacrosse, baseball and even soccer. It was so nice to be able to sit outside and study rather than being cooped up in my dorm room. It gets kind of depressing sitting in your room for three or more hours a night doing homework, especially when there is not any sunshine. Several students from other areas of the country were surprised that Michigan goes for such long periods of time between sunny days during the winter months. It is such a wonderful feeling to have spring weather and just to not have to wear a coat to every class. I never realized how long winter really was until I was trapped inside a tiny dorm room for the majority of it. I also failed to realize that our winters in Michigan were so different than other areas of the country. I knew that the more southern states did not have such long winters, but some states like Wisconsin and Minnesota actually have a significant amount of sun during the winter, or so I have been told. It is amazing to see the effects that the sun on people after the long winter. It just makes everyone happy.
