Steriods in Baseball
Professional athletes have always been pushed to exceed expectations. I find it no surprise that some of them are using performance enhancing steroids and other substances. They are constantly being faced with having to prove themselves and trying to standout from all the other players. Overall, I don’t think that this is a problem with sports today. If the athletes choose to use these substances, they know the possible side effects and that they can cause significant damage to one’s body.
I think that it is really bad that our U.S. Senators need to get involved in solving problems within the professional sports world; more specifically, major league baseball. The steroids they are using are mostly legal, and even if they weren’t, it’s not the job of our senators to get involved. It is the job of the justice department. If our senators don’t have anything better to do than hold hearings about steroids when there are severe problems that need urgent attention, then we really do have a problem. I think that it is up to baseball how to deal with this and not the government to get involved in private business. In my opinion, the Senate has clearly overstepped their bounds laid out in the Constitution. Major League Baseball and all other professional sports need to decide for themselves whether or not they will allow their athletes to use steroids, but in my opinion I think that if they choose to they can deal with all the problems that they can cause and if they due they will encounter the consequences of their decisions for the rest of their lives. They do need to make a decision on this soon because right now the players that are obeying the rules are the ones that are really suffering. By obeying the rules, they are at a disadvantage to those who aren’t.
