About:

The Colorado Review is published by the Center for Literary Publishing in the Department of English at Colorado State University. The Center’s mission is twofold: to publish contemporary short fiction, poetry, and nonfiction and to offer graduate students opportunities to learn about and participate in literary publishing through a professional internship. The Center also hosts the Colorado Prize for Poetry, the Nelligan Prize for Short Fiction, the Series in Contemporary Fiction, and Bonfire Press. The Colorado Review is committed to the publication of both new and established writers.

Analysis:

Located in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado State University’s The Colorado Review is published three times a year, receiving over 9000 submissions, and each issue weighs in around 200 pages. The publication is carefully and beautifully designed.

Aside from poetry, a good chunk of those pages goes to short fiction and nonfiction work, each submission on average about 20 pages. The interest is not quantity but quality. And although their commitment is to both new and established writers, the review seeks only excellence. As such, the accepted submissions are wide-ranging and nationally relevant. Overall, a fine publication.

Calvin Connection:

Professor L.S. Klatt (English) published his poetry in a recent issue.
