About:
Black Warrior Review (BWR) has been publishing consistently since 1974. They write, “We publish contemporary fiction, poetry, reviews, essays, and art for a literary audience. We publish the freshest work we can find.”
Each issue of BWR also features a chapbook from a nationally known poet.
Analysis:
I’ve stumbled across several tales of triumph regarding BWR—writers who cite BWR as a means of breaking into the literary world. BWR publishes a lot of established writers and award-winners, but they’re also known for publishing emerging writers. The editors strongly recommend reading a copy of the magazine before submitting, but it might be difficult to find, as Calvin does not subscribe, and no sample pieces are available online.
