Current Projects

At any given time, CSR supports or conducts several long-term projects and at least a dozen shorter-term projects. Please visit our weblog to see the latest news on current CSR projects.

If you want to partner with CSR and utilize our expertise, please feel free to contact us.  To discuss your research design and needs, contact Neil Carlson at (616)526-6420 to schedule an appointment.  You can also apply for CSR project support online by going directly to our Project Proposal Form.  Prospective clients are encouraged to contact CSR early in the imagination process so that you can benefit from our design skills and technological resources.

Small Grants Program

As a Center of Calvin College, CSR strives to make your research affordable by managing a small grants program.  This program is intended to make limited funds available to Calvin College employees for social research purposes that are not already covered by Calvin’s CRFs, Alumni Association grants, or other commonly available internal funds.  The CSR governing board reviews applications at four regular meetings throughout the academic year and disburses up to $8,000 per year with a limit of $1000 per project.  If you have additional questions about eligibility for this program, please see the small grant guidelines.

Services Offered:

Research Design & Project Management – Our staff has expertise in a wide variety of social-scientific methods.  We are happy to meet with you, help you plan your research, and provide you with project scheduling and cost estimation using Microsoft Project and QuickBase.

Surveys – CSR can assist you with designing and administering online surveys through a program we use called Inquisite.  We can also help you coordinate hybrid mail and online research or face to face interviews.

Statistical Analysis – We employ the use of Stata, SPSS, Excel, Access, and other platforms used for data analysis.  CSR also offers statistical modeling, custom data base-driven web applications, and GIS data mapping.

Qualitative Data Organization – Your project may include transcription of interviews or focus groups; we also have NVivo content analysis software available for flagging and organizing texts.

Design/Illustrator Packages – Corel, Publisher, and Fireworks are all programs we use for editing and creating visual media, whether for use as web graphics, promotional materials, or anything else you can dream up.

Web – Your project can be enhanced with our skills in designing web sites and data-driven applications.  We will work with you to report your findings in a visually stimulating and easily-accessible format.
