Access 2007: Fundamentals (2 days)

Learn the basic elements of an Access database: tables, queries, forms, and reports. You will create a small database using these four Access elements. This is a two-day course.

Calvin Template I: Introduction to Dreamweaver

This workshop is designed for those who are new to Dreamweaver or would like a quick refresher. It focuses on the basics for using Adobe Dreamweaver to create and edit web pages.  The primary focus of this class is on Dreamweaver, rather than the Calvin Template itself, but is a prerequisite for the next two Calvin Template classes. Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:

  • define a web site
  • add multiple pages to a web site
  • format text
  • add hyperlinks
  • insert images
  • edit images using Fireworks

Calvin Template II: Creating web pages

This workshop is designed for those who already have some experience with Dreamweaver and would like to learn more about working with pages in the Calvin Template.

Description: During this session, you will learn how to:

  • create a page in the new Calvin template
  • create and connect to navigation bars
  • adjust the settings on your page to ensure that visitors can navigate the site quickly and easily
  • change the layout of your page, including adding sidebars
  • improve your Google search rating by adding a title tag to your page
  • name and save your pages so that they’re easy to find for you AND your visitors

Prerequisite: Calvin Template 1 - Dreamweaver 101 (or equivalent experience)

Calvin Template III: Adding content to webpages

This workshop is designed for those who already have experience working in the Calvin template and would like to expand their knowledge and improve their webpages.

Description: During this session, you will learn how to:

  • add content to your pages
  • remove faulty formatting imported from other programs like Microsoft Word
  • use template headings and paragraph styles to format your text
  • add images to your page
  • use sidebars to enhance your pages
  • apply Calvin editorial style to your Web content
  • edit and re-size images for your pages in the new template (including banner images)
  • write well for the Web
  • determine the audience for each Web page
  • organize the content and pages on your site

Prerequisites:

  • Calvin Template I - Introduction to Dreamweaver (or equivalent experience), and
  • Calvin Template II

Excel 2007: Creating and working with charts

Charts allow you to display your data in an easy-to-read and understand format. Upon completion participants will know how to:

  • create, resize and move a chart
  • change a chart type
  • apply built-in layouts and styles
  • format chart elements
  • change a chart’s source data
  • use chart templates

Excel 2007: Managing workbooks and working with functions

Excel gives you several options for working with your data. You can have multiple workbooks or multiple worksheets. Learn how to write complex formulas, to insert and edit functions, to define names, and trace formulas and diagnose errors.

Upon completion participants will know how to:

  • view a workbook and work in the workbook window
  • split and freeze a workbook window
  • select and edit worksheets in a workbook
  • insert, rename, move, copy and delete worksheets
  • hide rows, columns, worksheets, and windows
  • protect a worksheet
  • insert and edit functions
  • define and work with named ranges
  • understand formula errors

Besides working with numbers and formulas, you can also work with text. Learn how to use Excel to work with names and addresses. You’ll learn to filter, sort, and customize your data. Upon completion participants will know how to:

  • sort by one or multiple columns
  • filter data
  • remove duplicate data
  • finding subtotals
