The Clothesline Project
The Clothesline Project is a visual display that bears witness to sexual assault and violence. During the display, a clothesline is hung with shirts. Each shirt is decorated to represent a particular person’s experience, by the survivor him/herself or by someone who cares about the survivor. Our hope is that this project may help some in the healing process, raise awareness of the prevalence of sexual violence, and communicate to survivors suffering in silence that they are not alone.

To create a t-shirt, survivors and their loved ones are invited to utilize the following space where supplies and instructions are provided.

Please follow-up with counselors in the Broene Center by appointment or between 3:30-4:00p.m. every day if you need to process through this experience.
Sharon Bytwerk from the Office of Christian Formation will also be available to pray with people.

Every spring Calvin hosts a panel discussion as an opportunity for the college to hear the stories of some of our gay and lesbian students. In the spirit of the CRC synodical reports of 1973 and 2002 (which are available at the panel) this event seeks to put a human face on an issue that is both current and controversial in our society. The panel does not address theological or biological questions, but provides a chance to listen and to reflect on people’s lived experience.
