Orientation- Starting out at Calvin

We believe that the success of your Calvin experience is tied to a meaningful transition into college life. Through our orientation programs you will become acquainted with Calvin's purpose, people and programs. Courses like Prelude and Developing a Christian Mind (DCM) will help you begin cultivating a life of learning and awareness. Not sure about your major, career, or what to study? 2Passport

PassportPASSPORT is a two-day program with four dates to choose from during the summer. You will learn about the academic transition to Calvin, meet fellow students, and become acquainted with our campus. Parents are welcome too! INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT is a five-day program that occurs before the beginning of classes in the fall. It is designed to prepare new international students and their adult family members for the transition to higher education and life in the United States.

3Quest

QuestQuest welcomes you to your first week at Calvin with a full five-day program that is centered around Calvin's vision statement. You will spend your days engaging in workshops and Streetfest and your nights in fun activities.

4Your First Week

You’ve decided how to organize your living space, and you know where your classes are.  Now it’s time to start making this all feel like home.  Late night conversations in your coffee kitchen, laughter over dinner in the dining hall, and worship with friends at Chapel—you’re forming relationships that will last a lifetime. Gather with us at Convocation as we celebrate community at Calvin for the year ahead. We welcome you to the Calvin community!

5Prelude

PreluePrelude is a seven-week course that introduces you to issues of learning, identity, vocation, discerning, and awareness through discussions and presentations.

6DCM

Developing a Christian Mind (DCM) is a first-year interim core course that introduces you to the development of a Christian worldview and a faith-based engagement with culture. All DCM sections include common readings and plenary lectures.

7Advising and Career Counseling

Career CounselingNot sure about your major? Your faculty advisor and Career Development's staff are eager to assist you in all aspects of your vocational planning, from your first year at Calvin until you retire.
