What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndicate

As the headline suggests, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndicate. An RSS document (also called RSS feed) aggregates the summary of content or the full content of an associated Web site or blog.

Why use it?

The advantage to using RSS is that the RSS reader will automatically search for news, updates, and new content of any associated Web site or blog and then place it one central location for easy access and viewing. One only needs to subscribe to the RSS feed and then view it through an RSS reader, hence the name, Really Simple Syndicate.

Many browsers including the newer versions of Safari and Mozilla Firefox have built in RSS readers. However, if you don't have an RSS reader many are available to download for free.
