GRAND RAPIDS – The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams held their second-ever dual meets inside the Venema Aquatic Center on Saturday and came away with a split against Kalamazoo. On the women’s side, Calvin defeated Kalamazoo 195-100. On the men’s side, Kalamazoo defeated Calvin 177-97.

Calvin held the MIAA’s second leading scorer, Adrian’s Desmond Young, scoreless as the Knights survived a defensive slugfest with Adrian 63-59 Saturday at VanNoord Arena to hold on to first place in the MIAA.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Harris has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV third team in the college division.

The Calvin women’s basketball team defeated Albion 76-68 on Wednesday night inside the Van Noord Arena. Junior Brook Van Eck scored 26 points while freshman Courtney Kurncz had a career-high 17 points. Senior Kristi Brummel added 16 points on the strength of four three-point field goals.

ALMA—The Calvin men’s basketball fought off an upset bid from the Alma Scots Wednesday night inside the Cappaert Gymnasium to move into sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings.
Calvin (13-6 overall) came from behind to defeat Alma 66-55 to improve to 8-1 in the MIAA, one game ahead of second place Hope which dropped to 7-2 in league play with a 70-68 loss at Albion on Wednesday.

TERRE HAUTE, IN—A group of Calvin men’s and women’s track and field athletes competed at the Rose-Hulman Engineer Invitational on Saturday with several athletes posting strong performances. A highlight for both Calvin teams was the performance of their distance medley squads.

ALMA—The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up dual meet victories at Alma on Saturday with the women’s team defeating the Alma women’s team 137-86 while the men’s team defeated the Alma men’s team 124-84.

GRAND RAPIDS – The Calvin women’s basketball team found itself in a familiar place Saturday afternoon – in overtime. Unfortunately the Knights were unable to come out on top, falling 72-68 to Alma in an overtime decision inside Calvin’s Van Noord Arena.

ANGOLA, IN – The injury bug, which had been dormant for the previous three seasons, has bitten the Knights throughout the 2008-2009 MIAA campaign.
“I don’t think that people realize how hard it is to go without somebody that you’ve played with, practiced with and set your substitution rotation accordingly,” coach Kevin Vande Streek said.
