Zeilstra and DeMaagd Receive All-MIAA Men’s Tennis Honors

The All-MIAA men’s tennis teams have been announced and two Calvin players have been so honored. Named to the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year from Calvin is senior Marcus Zeilstra while Calvin senior Steve DeMaagd has been named to the All-MIAA second team for the second straight year.

A native of Oakbrook, Illinois, Zeilstra has filled Calvin’s No. 1 singles spot this year. A graduate of Timothy Christian High School, Zeilstra sported an 11-9 singles record this year and was 17-5 while teaming with DeMaagd at No. 1 doubles.

DeMaagd is from Grandville and is a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School. Calvin’s No. 2 singles player this year, DeMaagd sported a 16-6 singles record.

Calvin finished the season with an overall record of 16-7. The Knights also finished tied for second in the final MIAA standings with Hope. Hope defeated Calvin during the MIAA dual match season 7-2 but the Knights defeated Hope 5-4 in the MIAA Tournament semifinals before falling to Kalamazoo 7-0 in the MIAA Tournament final.
