Women’s Volleyball Opens 2008 MIAA Campaign With Victory

KALAMAZOO, MI – Calvin opened its 2008 MIAA campaign with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-8 victory at Kalamazoo Wednesday evening. The Knights are now 4-1 overall.

Freshman Erin VanderPlas (Northern Michigan McBain Christian HS) had a strong outing with 10 kills and an attack percentage of .350.  Freshman Rebecca Camp (Orland Park, IL) also had a strong match with nine kills, six digs and three blocks.

Playing just blocks away form her former high school, senior Jessica Garlick (Kalamazoo Christian HS) chipped in with six kills and an attack percentage of .750.

Senior Lauren DeGroot (Tulare, CA) came up with 26 assists, eight digs and two service aces. Calvin’s back row was stellar as junior Kelsey Sears (Traverse City West HS) chalked up 20 digs, junior Katie Corbett (St. Joseph) 14 digs and senior Stacie Lippert (St. Louis HS) 12 digs.

Kalamazoo (2-3) was paced by Colleen Leanard with nine kills.

Ranked 21st in the most-recent AVCA Division III Top 25 poll, Calvin will now break until next week Tuesday when it travels to Trine University for a 7:00 p.m. conference match.
