Women’s Track and Field Team Wins MIAA Jamboree Title

ADRIAN, MI - The Calvin women’s track and field team took another step forward towards extending its current 21-year MIAA championship streak as the Knights took first place at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian College on Saturday. Calvin posted a first place total of 996 points with Hope second with 933.5 points. The MIAA Jamboree - held in mid-April each year, is worth 50 percent of the final MIAA standings with the MIAA Field Day worth the remaining 50 percent. The 2011 MIAA Field Day is scheduled for May 5 and 6 at Olivet College.
Calvin took first place in 11 events on Saturday.
Event Winners for Calvin included:
*Senior Sarah Reasoner in the discus (140-0) and shot put (44-0).
*Senior Kim Wigboldy in the javelin (111-4) and long jump (17-5 1/2)
*Junior Jodi Hoekstra in the 5,000 meters (18:27.25) and 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:10.00)
*Senior Rachel Boerner in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.80).
*Freshman Julie Busscher in the 200 meters (27.99).
*Freshman Nicole Michmerhuizen in the 10,000 meters (39.02.17)
*Sophomore Carissa Verkaik in the high jump (5-2 1/4).
*Calvin’s 4x100 meter relay team of Boerner, junior Jordan Gabriels, freshman Stephanie Bennett and Busscher in a time of 50.14.
Calvin will return to action next Saturday when it competes at the Aquinas Open at Houseman Field.
