BIG RAPIDS—Calvin dipped to 1-3 on the year, falling to regionally-ranked Ferris State University 6-3 Thursday afternoon. Since opening the year with an 8-1 win over regionally-ranked Carthage, Calvin has dropped three consecutive matches with all three losses coming against ranked opponents.

Last Friday, Calvin was defeated by fourth-ranked Chicago 9-0 and then dropped an 8-1 decision to 27th-ranked Wheaton (IL) Saturday afternoon.

Ferris State entered Thursday’s match ranked ninth in the most-recent ITA Division II Midwest Regional rankings.

Picking up singles victories for Calvin on Thursday were sophomore Melissa Oosterhouse (Grand Rapids Christian HS) at No. 1 singles and sophomore Michelle Busscher (Western Michigan Christian HS) at No. 5 singles. Juniors Rachel DeGroot (Lombard, IL) and Elisabeth Geenen (Holland Christian HS) were also winners at No. 3 doubles.

Calvin returns to action on March 18 when it faces Olivet at the Michigan State Indoor Tennis Center in a match that will serve as the MIAA opener for the Knights.
