Women’s Tennis Falls at Albion 6-3

ALBION - The Albion women’s tennis team handed Calvin its first conference defeat in two years Wednesday at Albion’s Ungrodt Tennis Center, defeating the Knights 6-3. With the win, Albion moves to 3-0 in league play while Calvin fall to 1-1 in the league and 4-7 overall. Calvin grabbed the early advantage with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles but Albion struck back with five singles victories with Calvin’s only singles point coming from senior Melissa Oosterhouse who picked up a hard-fought three-set win over longtime rival Shelly Zamler. Oosterhouse is now 23-3 all-time in singles play in MIAA dual match competition.

Oosterhouse also teammed up with senior Kaitlin Spoelhof for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while senior Michelle Busscher and sophomore Elise Doezema were 8-6 winners at No. 2 doubles.

Calvin returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Trine for a 1 p.m. MIAA dual match.
