Women’s Tennis Defeated by Wheaton in Season Opener 7-2

HANOVER PARK, IL - Calvin opened its 2011 campaign with a 7-2 loss at Wheaton College Friday afternoon. Calvin’s lone victories came in singles play as senior Melissa Oosterhouse (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was a 7-6, 7-5 winner at No. 1 singles while senior Kaitlin Spoelhof (Holland/Holland Christian HS) was a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 winner at No. 2 singles.
Senior Michelle Busscher (Whitehall/Western Michigan Christian HS) dropped a tough three-set match at No. 3 singles while Oosterhouse and Spoelhof were edged 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Oosterhouse is now 60-11 in her Calvin singles career.
Calvin will return to play on Saturday when it takes on Coe College (IA) in the Wheaton area.
