Women’s Tennis Clinches Spot in MIAA Tournament With Win at Adrian

ADRIAN – Calvin improved to 6-11 overall and to 4-2 in the MIAA with a 7-2 conference dual match win at Adrian Saturday afternoon. The Knights are currently in fourth place in the MIAA standings and have now clinched a spot in the upcoming four-team MIAA Tournament. Calvin has remaining regular season league matches against Hope (April 24) and against Trine (April 28). The MIAA Tournament is slated to start on May 3 at the site of the MIAA regular season champion. Calvin is two wins ahead of Alma (4-4) but holds a head-to-head tiebreaker edge over Alma for a league tournament spot.
In its win over Adrian on Saturday, Calvin claimed two of the three doubles points. Freshmen Megan Visser (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) and Samantha Reitsma (Grand Rapids/Northpointe Christian HS) combined for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Lauren Schlagenhauf (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran HS) and junior Jordan Ipema (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) were 8-3 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Visser then picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles while Schlagenhauf was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 2 singles. Ipema won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, junior Elise Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and freshman Ali Roode (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Calvin’s match at Hope next Tuesday is slated to start at 4 p.m.
