Women’s Tennis Advances to MIAA Tournament Championship Final

KALAMAZOO – For the second straight year, the Calvin women’s tennis team has advanced to the MIAA Tournament finals. The Knights advanced to the tournament finals with a 7-0 first round win over Olivet and a 5-3 semifinal victory over host Kalamazoo.
The Knights will face rival Hope in the championship final at noon at Kalamazoo’s Stowe Stadium. The winner will receive the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament. In the earlier matchup of the year Hope defeated Calvin 5-4. Hope (18-5) advanced to Friday’s title tilt with a 5-0 first round win over Adrian and a 5-0 win over Albion in the MIAA Tournament semifinals.
In the win over Kalamazoo, Calvin (13-7) grabbed a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Knights then sewed up the meet with wins at No. 2 singles (Kaitlin Spoelhof), No. 3 singles (Elisabeth Geenen) and No. 5 singles (Michelle Busscher).
