Women’s Soccer Team Picks up 4-0 Win at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, OH – The 15th-ranked Calvin women’s soccer picked up a 4-0 victory at Ohio Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in its final non-conference tilt before MIAA play begins next week. Calvin (7-1-1) extends its unbeaten streak to seven games with the win as the Knights are 6-0-1 over their last seven games.

Senior Lauren Heyboer (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) put the Knights on the board in the first half, bending in a corner kick in the 22nd minute of play.

Calvin then struck quickly in the second half as senior Carly Prins (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) headed in a throw-in from freshman Laura VanEngen (Grand Rapids/South Christian HS) in the 47th minute. Freshman Brittany Hieftje (Holland/Holland Christian HS) added her team-leading fourth goal of the season on an assist from senior Elaine Schnabel (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton HS) in the 67th minute and freshman Paige Rindels (Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson HS) converted a feed from junior Kim Schmitkons (Baldwinsville, NY/Faith Heritage HS) in the 83rd minute.

Calvin held a 25-5 shots at goal advantage. Freshman goalkeeper Ashton Hearn (Port Huron/Port Huron Northern HS) had on save in gaining her eighth shutout victory of the year.

Calvin will now prepare to open its MIAA campaign on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Mary’s at 4 p.m. at Calvin’s Zuidema Field.
