Women’s Soccer Hands Olivet 6-2 Defeat Behind Hat Trick Performance from Liz Cancel

OLIVET – Calvin kept its MIAA Tournament hopes alive with a 6-2 victory at Olivet Wednesday night. Calvin is now three points behind fourth place Hope but can still qualify for the four-team league tournament with victories over Hope and Kalamazoo over the next six days.
Junior Liz Cancel notched her first collegiate hat-trick on Wednesday night, scoring three goals including a key blast with seconds left in the first half that gave the Knights a 2-1 halftime lead. Cancel added two more goals just a 1:24 apart in the second half that helped the Knights take a 5-2 lead.
Also scoring for the Knights were sophomore Paige Rindels, sophomore Danielle Carter and freshman Samantha Osterhaven. Cancel now has 11 goals on the year while Osterhaven has nine, Rindels five and Carter four.
Sophomore Ashton Hearn and freshman Lauren Merz split time in goal for the Knights with Merz picking up one save. Calvin held a 27-5 shots at goal advantage in the win.
Calvin is now 9-9 overall and 9-5-0 in league play.
Calvin will travel to Hope on Saturday for a contest slated to start at noon.
