BLOOMINGTON, IL—Calvin scored first but Washington University took over from there as the nationally-ranked Bears scored eight unanswered goals to defeat Calvin 8-1 Friday night at the Illinois Wesleyan Classic.

Calvin freshman Brittany Hieftje (Holland/Holland Christian HS) put the Knights ahead 1-0 on a goal just 4:44 into the match but Washington scored a goal less than four minutes later and added another in the closing minutes of the first half to take a 2-1 lead at intermission. The Bears then scored four goals in a span of 12 minutes early in the second half to break the game wide open including two from freshman Anna Zambricki who now has six goals in two games this year for Washington.

Washington University held a 21-5 shots at goal advantage. Calvin returns to action late Saturday afternoon when it faces host Illinois Wesleyan University at 5 p.m. (CDT).
